1. There will be a special Marksmanship practice on Saturday, February 22nd from 1200-1630 (12pm-4:30pm) at the Pembroke Armoury.  This practice will be the final practice before the team selection which will be held Monday, 24 Feb.  If you any questions please see Capt Morrisey in person, or by email at ch147fe@gmail.com
  2. The Marksmanship team selection/shoot off will be held Monday February 24th from 1800-2100 (6pm-9pm). This selection for this year’s competitive team will result from a local competition consisting of 2 scoring targets in the prone position and 2 scoring targets in the standing position.  The team will be comprised of the scoring cadets in this competition.  The team will be made up 5 cadets and at a minimum of two junior cadets who have not turned 15 prior to 19 May 2020.   If you any questions please see Capt Morrisey in person, or by email at ch147fe@gmail.com
  3. Drill Team Practice will be held on Wednesday nights from 1730-1830hrs at the Armoury all are welcome.
  4. Summer Training Opportunities – We are now accepting applications for summer training opportunities. You must apply online through our website 638aircadets.ca. Please ensure to read the course descriptions under summer training to ensure that you meet the prerequisites prior to submitting your applications. If you are unable to apply through the website, you must speak with our training officer Capt A McGinley or you can email him at gmcginley.gm@gmail.com with any questions you may have. It is important to remember that applying does not guarantee you a summer training opportunity. Only 2/3 of cadets that apply will be accepted due to the number of billets available.
  5. REMINDER: Please sign up on the Intent to Participate form for the Winter Fun Day tentatively scheduled on Saturday, 7 March at Garrison Petawawa if you wish to participate.  We must have a minimum of 15 participants in order to run this activity.  The Winter Fun Day is a free, fun filled day of winter activities such as; sledding, snowshoeing, camp fire lunch, floor hockey, and ending with a swim.  The Intent to Participate form will be available at the sign in table at the armoury on Wednesday nights.   6. Applications are now being accepted for the Lord Strathcona Medal.  Deadline is Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at 2000 hrs (NO EXCEPTIONS).  This medal is awarded by the Lord Strathcona trust and is the highest cadet award in recognition of exemplary performance in physical and military training. Each squadron may award one medal per training year with the Squadron CO nominating one cadet to the Lord Strathcona Trust Provincial Committee for their approval; the medal may only be awarded once to any one cadet.  The objectives of the Lord Strathcona Medal are to encourage the improvement of the physical and intellectual capabilities of the cadets and to foster patriotism in cadets through the acquisition of a good knowledge of military matters. The selected cadet will have a high level of physical fitness, will have qualified at Level 3, have met all requirements of the squadron training program and attended 75% of training parades in the year of nomination, will have met all requirements of the squadrons support program and participated in at least 50% of scheduled activities in the year of nomination, and have completed three years as a cadet.  If you would like to be considered as a candidate for this award, please write a short narrative (1 page maximum) of how you meet these criteria. Narratives must be submitted to Capt Morrisey in person or via email at ch147fe@gmail.com no later than Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at 2000 hrs (NO EXCEPTIONS)
  7. Applications are now being accepted for the Royal Canadian Legion Medal of Excellence.  Deadline is Tuesday, Tuesday February 25, 2020 at 2000 hrs (NO EXCEPTIONS).  This medal is wholly sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion and is awarded in recognition of individual endeavours in citizenship that meet or enhance the aims and objectives of the cadet movement. Each squadron may award one medal per training year and the Sqn CO is the approving authority; the medal may only be awarded once to any one cadet.  The primary objective of the RCL Cadet Medal of Excellence is to emphasize the citizenship aspects of the cadet program so the main selection criterion is that the cadet has participated in a minimum of three community service event, in addition to those supported by the sqn. Additionally, the cadet must meet all annual training requirements, be regarded by peers and superiors as a model cadet, and have enhanced the sqn through co-operation, comradeship, promotion of goodwill and morale, development of sqn/flight/team identity and cohesiveness, teamwork and community service.  If you would like to be considered as a candidate for this award, please write a short narrative (1 page maximum) of how you meet these criteria, with emphasis on how you are involved in the community. Narratives must be submitted to Capt Morrisey in person or via email at ch147fe@gmail.com no later than Tuesday, February 25, 2019 at 2000hrs (NO EXCEPTIONS).
  8. Cadets and parents are reminded that cadets should not be at the Armoury on Wednesdays prior to 1800hrs (6pm).
  9. Cancellation Policy Due to Weather – There may be a requirement to cancel a regular training night and/or activity from time to time due to weather conditions. Every effort will be made to publicize the cancellation on the Squadron’s Website and Facebook page no later than 1300hrs on the day in question. We encourage all cadets and parent/guardian(s) to check these two sources for updates.  As always parents and/or guardians should use their judgment when deciding whether or not to venture out on the roads to bring their son/daughter/ward to cadets.
