1. Marksmanship will resume Monday February 10, 2020 from 1800-2100 (6 pm-9 pm). Marksmanship is open to all cadets of all levels.  We have a very short time to prepare for the selection of the team to compete in the zone competition that will be held during the weekend of 7-8 March 2020.  If you have questions please see Capt Morrisey in person, or by email at ch147fe@gmail.com.
  2. Drill Team Practice will be held on Wednesday nights from 1730-1830hrs at the Armoury all are welcome.
  3. Aviation Fun Day – We are having an aviation fun day on Saturday February 15th from 1000 to 1500hrs at the Pembroke Armoury. Cadets will be able to pilot a plane on the flight simulator, build a rocket, and fly an RC Helicopter. Be sure to get your name added to the sign-up sheet to participate. Lunch will be provided and the order of dress for the day is appropriate civilian attire. For more information speak with Cpl Solimine.
  4. Want to try your hands at flying a CH147F Chinook Helicopter or shoot the C6…well at least in the simulator?  450 Tactical Helicopter Squadron with the assistance of CAE Inc have invited cadets and staff to their facility on Garrison Petawawa on Monday, February 17, 2020 (Ontario Family Day) from 0900-1200hrs. Cadets are to be at the entrance of building CC128 at no earlier than 0845hrs and no later than 0900hrs.  A map to 450 Squadron will be posted on the Squadron website and Facebook page.  Please note: NO cell phone or cameras are permitted inside (DO NOT BRING THEM!!!).  Pick up will be at 1200hrs.  If you have any questions email Capt Duchene at daniel.duchene@outlook.com.
  5. The deadline for lottery tickets has been extended by one week.  They are now due on WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 12th.   We still have extra tickets to sell. There will be prizes for the most tickets sold. 
  6. We are now accepting online applications through our Website for the following summer training courses: Fitness and Sports Instructor – CTC Blackdown, Air Rifle Marksmanship Instructor – CTC Connaught, Survival Instructor – CTC Blackdown, Drill and Ceremonial Instructor (Air) – CTC Blackdown, Military Band (Intermediate Musician)- CTC Blackdown, Military Band (Advanced Musician)- CTC Blackdown, Pipe Band (Intermediate Musician)- CTC Blackdown, and Pipe Band (Advanced Musician)- CTC Blackdown.  Due to changes in summer training this year, we do not have information on any of the other courses to date. Once information is received, we will be accepting applications. Please stay turned to our Website, Facebook, and, Weekly Announcements for updates. Deadline for the above course applications is February 21.
  7. Applications are now being accepted for the Lord Strathcona Medal.  Deadline is Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at 2000 hrs (NO EXCEPTIONS).  This medal is awarded by the Lord Strathcona trust and is the highest cadet award in recognition of exemplary performance in physical and military training. Each squadron may award one medal per training year with the Squadron CO nominating one cadet to the Lord Strathcona Trust Provincial Committee for their approval; the medal may only be awarded once to any one cadet.  The objectives of the Lord Strathcona Medal are to encourage the improvement of the physical and intellectual capabilities of the cadets and to foster patriotism in cadets through the acquisition of a good knowledge of military matters. The selected cadet will have a high level of physical fitness, will have qualified at Level 3, have met all requirements of the squadron training program and attended 75% of training parades in the year of nomination, will have met all requirements of the squadrons support program and participated in at least 50% of scheduled activities in the year of nomination, and have completed three years as a cadet.  If you would like to be considered as a candidate for this award, please write a short narrative (1 page maximum) of how you meet these criteria. Narratives must be submitted to Capt Morrisey in person or via email at ch147fe@gmail.com no later than Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at 2000 hrs (NO EXCEPTIONS)
  8. Applications are now being accepted for the Royal Canadian Legion Medal of Excellence.  Deadline is Tuesday, Tuesday February 25, 2020 at 2000 hrs (NO EXCEPTIONS).  This medal is wholly sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion and is awarded in recognition of individual endeavours in citizenship that meet or enhance the aims and objectives of the cadet movement. Each squadron may award one medal per training year and the Sqn CO is the approving authority; the medal may only be awarded once to any one cadet.  The primary objective of the RCL Cadet Medal of Excellence is to emphasize the citizenship aspects of the cadet program so the main selection criterion is that the cadet has participated in a minimum of three community service event, in addition to those supported by the sqn. Additionally, the cadet must meet all annual training requirements, be regarded by peers and superiors as a model cadet, and have enhanced the sqn through co-operation, comradeship, promotion of goodwill and morale, development of sqn/flight/team identity and cohesiveness, teamwork and community service.  If you would like to be considered as a candidate for this award, please write a short narrative (1 page maximum) of how you meet these criteria, with emphasis on how you are involved in the community. Narratives must be submitted to Capt Morrisey in person or via email at ch147fe@gmail.com no later than Tuesday, February 25, 2019 at 2000hrs (NO EXCEPTIONS).
  9. Cadets and parents are reminded that cadets should not be at the Armoury on Wednesdays prior to 1800hrs (6pm).
  10. Cancellation Policy Due to Weather – There may be a requirement to cancel a regular training night and/or activity from time to time due to weather conditions. Every effort will be made to publicize the cancellation on the Squadron’s Website and Facebook page no later than 1300hrs on the day in question. We encourage all cadets and parent/guardian(s) to check these two sources for updates.  As always parents and/or guardians should use their judgement when deciding whether or not to venture out on the roads to bring their son/daughter/ward to cadets.
